PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP ON ME - JUBILEE

This video was made by Daragh McCarthy in the house in Phibsboro where members of Jubilee, Decal and Ultramack resided. It brightens up near the end in the back garden and you can get a proper goo at da brudders and Lee in their tattered glory. I will forever associate the house with bumming cigarettes when the money ran out in a big way around 1997.

Anyway Dead Elvis released two 7’ singles at the same time sometime in early 1995. We heard the Jubilee song above at a shambolic Jubilee gig and shortly afterwards myself and my brother Og began one evening to simultaneously get drunk in the Hut around the corner from the house in the video and barrage Naill and Fergus with phonecalls - not stopping till they agreedĀ  more or less under duress to go to 147 and record the tune immediately with Marc. I wasn’t there when it was recorded and until just a minute ago, (while consulting the Jubilee Allstars discography), didn’t realise Barry was in the band in any fashion at the time. He actually played guitar on the B-side so the video is a lying cheat!

I knew about Jack alright from seeing them record their first single - Everyone’s Clown. Og was crazy about the B side of that single too. Boy did ‘Please Don’t Give Up On Me’ go down well in the outside world. Still sounds fantastic. I’ll upload high quality audio versions of both sides when I have them to hand.

Jubilee were (at the time of the single) Fergus, Niall, Jack, Barry and Lee.

Recorded by Marc Carolan.
